Welcome to the final Small Business Roundup for 2025.

As the year draws to a close, it’s timely to reflect on a year of resilience, growth and innovation for our small and family business community. From navigating severe weather events, business cost pressures and evolving market conditions, to embracing new technologies and opportunities, Queensland small businesses have continued to demonstrate adaptability and a determination to succeed.

One of our priorities this year was to ensure mediation fee waivers remained available for businesses adversely impacted by severe weather events. We understand how stressful disputes can be, especially after a disruption, and avoiding lengthy, costly court processes can make a real difference. Our goal is simple: to help you resolve disputes quickly and affordably so you can focus on what you do best—running your business.

We’ve also worked hard this year to expand the practical tools and resources available to you. We introduced 58 new self-help factsheets, complete with dynamic translation, to make vital information clearer and more accessible. We also launched a simple online form for reporting red tape that’s holding your business back. The insights you’ve shared through this tool are helping us identify the issues that matter most to you and opportunities to advocate for change.

With more than 94,000 people visiting the QSBC website this year, we’re looking forward to redeveloping it in 2026. Our aim is to make it even easier for you to find the clear, practical information you need, when you need it.

To date this financial year, our office has processed 780 enquiries, supported 266 requests for mediation and dispute assistance, and delivered 456 engagements and advocacy activities across Queensland. We resolved 70% of accepted disputes within an average of 41 days, and 91% of business owners rated our service 4–5 stars. Behind every statistic lies the story of a small business owner seeking our support to avoid costly legal action, repair relationships, and move forward with confidence and we value the trust placed in us to assist.

If you’re facing a challenge in your business, feeling stuck, or unsure where to turn, don’t hesitate to reach out. Call us on 1300 312 344 or contact us online.

The QSBC works with industry associations, peak bodies, chambers of commerce, and all tiers of government to understand and contribute to operating environments which assist small businesses. This year has seen the introduction of new programs and initiatives to support small businesses to succeed, and I encourage you to continue participating in these possibilities for growth. Current opportunities to consider include Round 2 of the Secure Communities Program and the Business Growth Fund Program.

As we reflect on 2025, we’re celebrating your achievements and thank you for your contribution to our state’s economy and communities.

Looking ahead to 2026, the QSBC will continue to focus on red tape reduction, dispute resolution, and delivering key activities such as supporting member councils and their communities through the Small Business Friendly Program. Other priorities will include exploring opportunities to leverage technology and working with key stakeholders to enhance our strategic advice and advocacy outcomes to optimise regulation for Queensland’s small and family businesses.

Next year, we will continue working with you to address the challenges impacting small enterprises, helping Queensland remain a great place to start and operate a successful business.

The QSBC team will be taking a short break from 24 December, returning on 2 January 2026. We wish you, your teams, and your families a safe and joy-filled festive season.
